Community living supports (or residential supports) are provided within two main
settings:
(a)
Individual living supports are provided to help people
live as independently as possible .
. . typically, this support is not provided for more than two
people living in their own home or apartment..
(b) Associate
living supports are provided to an individual in a host family
situation or a companionship arrangement where typically no more than two people require assistance.
The
Association currently supports 72 adults who live in the community and
provides varying degrees of assistance tailored to individual
needs. Emphasis is placed on helping people develop the
connections, skills and the supports necessary to live in their own
homes. Assistance can range from learning meal preparation and
shopping to housekeeping and budgeting.
The
Family Home Program is a residential option for adults offering the
warmth and security of family living. We recruit families who wish to
share their homes and lives with the people we support. The Association
reimburses family home providers for their care and assistance within
the home. Care providers receive ongoing help from Association
staff during the hosting process. Individuals residing in family
homes pay for their own room and board.
Within
the limits of government funding, the Association provides money to
individuals to purchase companionship and assistance and many other
services and supports from people in the community.
The
Association maintains a list of potential people interested in providing
a family home, companionship and/or respite. We would be happy to tell you more
about these services and supports, and the screening and selection
processes involved. If you are interested in learning more, please
contact us.
