Community Living Upper Ottawa Valley is a member of the Ontario and Canadian Associations for Community Living.

Often referred to as the community living movement, these associations are depend upon the “grass roots” involvement of individuals and families affected by intellectual disabilities and other caring community members.

Individuals in communities throughout Canada come together to form local associations. Local associations work through regional representation and as member agencies of the provincial associations.  Provincial associations represent their membership at the national level.

Associations for community living are usually charitable, non-profit corporations who depend on government funding, fundraising and donations.

Community Living Upper Ottawa Valley has many local partners.

The generous support of the United Way/Centraide of the Upper Ottawa Valley and Deep River District United Way help the association facilitate inclusive summer activities for children and youth.  In cooperation with municipalities, camps and other community recreational groups we subside participation and individuals supports so all children can enjoy summer together.

The Renfrew County Separate School Board and the Association co-fund an association staff that works with high school students who require extra support to participate in Cooperative Education (employment experiences).  The program has had tremendous success in helping young adults find employment experience, which in many cases has lead to paid employment.  The program has also served young adults well when faced with major transitions into adult life.

The Association is active on the Inclusion Renfrew County Committee. The committee was the result of restructuring in the provincial developmental service sector and it membership is comprised of service providing agencies from the county and Ontario Ministry of Community, Family and Children's Services representatives.  The committee meets regularly to develop policies and protocols, as well as identify resource needs and distributes new Developmental Service funding in the County of Renfrew.

The Pembroke and surrounding communities have benefited immensely from KI Pembroke, a local producers of office storage equipment and furnishings.  KI demonstrate what a good corporate citizen should be, not only by donating funds and lending their time and expertise, but by being a inclusive employer.   KI recently co-sponsored a golf tournament that raised over $8,000 for summer supports.
